The Missouri State Highway Patrol says that four people suffered personal injuries in a two-car crash last Wednesday morning in Miller County. All four of the injured people were in the same car. Law enforcement says that a 22-year-old man from Kansas was driving too fast for the road conditions causing him to cross the centerline. A recent story from Lake News Online does not include specific details about the road conditions at the time of the crash.
The man’s Mercury collided with a Chevrolet driven by a 49-year-old woman from Iberia, Missouri. She escaped injury in the wreck, according to law enforcement. However, four people in the Mercury suffered injuries.
The driver of the Mercury and a 19-year-old woman from Crocker, Missouri, were seriously injured. Each was taken to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries. Two other passengers in the Mercury suffered less serious injuries. Authorities say that a 22-year-old Iberia man suffered moderate injuries, while a 20-year-old Crocker resident suffered minor injuries.
Drivers have a duty to drive with due care. In general, the duty does not only apply for the benefit of the driver, other motorists on the road, and pedestrians who may be in the area, but also to the passengers in the same vehicle.
Traffic accidents cause far too many injuries each year on Missouri roads. Many of the injuries are suffered by passengers in crashes. A passenger may be injured in a single-car wreck. A driver’s negligence leading to the accident may support a claim for damages for an accident victim.
