After the death of a woman in an accident in High Ridge on Aug. 2, another crash recently claimed the life of a driver in the same vicinity. The latest was one of those single-car accidents in which the driver was killed, and the passengers were seriously injured. The Missouri State Highway officers who responded to the scene say the wreck occurred shortly before 9 p.m.
According to an accident report, a 35-year-old Cedar Hill man was eastbound on a local road with two passengers in his car. For unknown reasons, the driver went across the center line, and the vehicle left the road on the opposite side. It then smashed into a tree.
The emergency workers of the North Jefferson County Ambulance arrived to find the driver deceased. His death was pronounced at the accident scene. Both passengers were injured in the crash. A 34-year-old House Springs woman was taken to a medical center from where her condition was reported to be stable. The other victim, a 32-year-old Fenton man was critically injured, and he was airlifted to a hospital in Creve Coeur.
Injured victims of car accidents are entitled to pursue claims for financial relief — even if the driver that caused the crash did not survive. Personal injury claims may be filed against the estate of the driver if he or she is deemed responsible. If such lawsuits are filed in a Missouri civil court, the plaintiffs will have establish negligence on the part of the deceased driver before the court can adjudicate documented claims for financial and emotional damages sustained. If this process is successful, the court may award monetary judgments.
