Many injuries and deaths on Missouri roads are caused by drivers who fail to yield before joining the traffic on busy highways. It only takes a moment to check for oncoming traffic, and it also takes only moments to cause car accidents with devastating consequences. One such accident on Highway 5 recently totaled two cars and caused serious injuries to one person.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reportedly responded to the crash on a recent Wednesday afternoon. According to an accident report, an 80-year-old minivan driver turned left onto Highway 5 from another road without yielding. He allegedly pulled directly into the path of an 18-year-old man who was southbound.
The crash that followed reportedly caused serious injuries to a 13-year-old passenger in the southbound car. Officers reported that the teenager was not restrained by a seat belt. He was rushed to a regional hospital. No mention was made of any injuries suffered by the two drivers of the vehicles that were involved in the wreck.
It is not known whether any charges were filed after this crash. However, regardless of whether charges are filed after car accidents, injured victims have the right to pursue financial relief by filing personal injury claims in a Missouri civil court. In order for the court to consider a monetary judgment, negligence on the part of another party must be established. Following this, all documented claims for pecuniary and non-economical damages will be considered for compensation. Along with medical expenses, other financial losses and emotional damages, such as pain and suffering, may be included in the claims.
