Fatal motor vehicle accidents: Wrong-way crash kills 1, injures 1

Missouri drivers may have experienced delays on northbound Interstate 29 on a recent Thursday morning. The road closure followed a crash that occurred earlier. As is common when fatal motor vehicle accidents occur, traffic was delayed while the scene of the accident was being investigated. Northbound lanes reopened later.

According to a report by the Kansas City police, the accident occurred near 64th Street. Officers said a vehicle operated by a driver who was southbound in the northbound lanes hit two other vehicles. One car was struck head-on after another was side-swiped. Reportedly, several fender benders followed the primary accident.

The driver who was traveling in the wrong direction apparently died in the crash. A woman who was in the car that was struck head-on reportedly suffered serious injuries, and she was hospitalized. Police said none of the occupants of multiple other vehicles that were involved suffered any injuries.

Whenever fatal motor vehicle accidents are caused by the negligent actions of drivers, the families of those who lost their lives are entitled to seek full and fair financial accountability from the party or parties believed responsible. Financial relief may be pursued by filing wrongful death claims in a Missouri civil court. If the person deemed responsible does not survive the accident, claims can be filed against his or her estate. Once sufficient evidence of negligence proves financial liability, the court will consider a monetary judgment for documented financial and emotional losses sustained. These may include medical expenses and/or costs related to end-of-life arrangements, lost income and other financial losses, along with non-economical damages as provided by applicable law.
