Missouri motorcycle accidents can be difficult for crash victims and their families to deal with. In worst-case scenarios, families can be left mourning a victim’s loss while surviving victims may face significant recovery times and medical bills due to their injuries. A recent motorcycle accident has claimed the life of one man and sent another to the hospital with moderate injuries. The motorcycle accident happened just before 8:30 p.m. on a Sunday evening.
According to authorities, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred when one man was traveling south along a roadway. He apparently passed a second motorcycle and then, for some reason which isn’t immediately clear, slammed on his brakes. Officials indicate that after that unexpected application of his brakes, the other motorcyclist was not able to stop in time to avoid rear-ending him.
The impact of that rear-end crash was actually so forceful that both motorcycles were flung onto the side of the roadway. Each of the drivers was also ejected as a result of the collision. The driver of the first motorcycle was taken to one area hospital but was unfortunately pronounced dead the next day. The second motorcycle’s operator was taken to another area hospital but his injuries were fortunately not life-threatening.
In serious motorcycle accidents like this one, surviving victims may be able to file personal injury lawsuits against the estate of a slain driver. In order to do so, evidence must demonstrate that the other driver was at fault in the collision. While it’s not immediately clear if that will be the case in this particular crash, it could be a possibility in the future.
