Rear-end crashes may involve a wide variety of different factors. Driver inattention, distracted driving, failing to maintain proper distance and other factors may lead to a rear-end crash. While head-on crashes may theoretically seem more disastrous, rear-end collisions can lead to significant personal injury and even death. That may be especially true when one of the vehicles involved is a motorcycle or three-wheeler.
Two Lancaster, Missouri, residents suffered serious injuries last Thursday in a wreck on U.S. 136 in Luray, Missouri. Authorities say that the two are a husband and wife who had been riding a motorcycle on the highway. Authorities say that the couple was on a 2012 Cam Am, and the two stopped to make a left-hand turn when their three-wheeled bike was struck from the rear by a pickup truck.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says that the 2012 Can Am motorcycle burst into flames in the wreck. The man and woman each suffered serious injuries. Emergency responders called in an Air Evac helicopter to transport the couple to a hospital in Iowa City. Authorities say that each of the motorcycle accident victims was wearing a helmet.
It is not clear from a newspaper account if the husband and wife suffered any burn injuries when the Can Am caught fire. The two were ejected from the Can Am in the accident. Details about the nature and extent of the victims’ injuries were not included in the public media account.
The state patrol says that the 20-year-old Iowa man driving the Dodge Dakota involved in the accident was not injured.
