It is not uncommon for drivers to make left turns without keeping a proper lookout for other cars. This has led to many car accidents with serious injuries on Missouri highways. One such accident reportedly happened on U.S. Highway 63 in Kirksville on a recent Tuesday evening.
Authorities reported that a 29-year-old driver who was traveling south on the highway tried to make a left turn onto another highway without checking for other traffic. His pickup truck reportedly smashed into another vehicle that was also southbound on U.S. Highway 63. That car carried two passengers from another state.
A 67-year-old woman and a 69-year-old man were both injured. By the following afternoon, hospital reports indicated that the man’s condition was serious while the woman’s condition was classified as fair. There was no mention of injuries to the pickup truck driver who seemed to have caused the crash. The Kirksville Police Department said charges against this driver were pending.
Whenever serious injuries are suffered in car accidents on Missouri roads, the victims are entitled to pursue claims for damages against those deemed responsible. A personal injury claim can be filed in a civil court; in the case of a fatal accident, a wrongful death claim may be pursued.
Negligence on the part of the driver believed responsible must be established. When the court is satisfied that financial liability has been determined, it will adjudicate all documented claims for damages. These may include both out-of-pocket financial losses along with non-economic damages such as pain and suffering, loss of life enjoyment and more.
