The Missouri State Highway Patrol believes that a teen driver’s failure to yield at a highway intersection led to an injury accident in Pike County Monday afternoon. Generally, failure to yield issues can arise in a number of contexts. Traffic laws create rules for who has the right of way in many situations, ranging from the right of way involving pedestrians, to the right of way at intersections and while merging into highway traffic.
The Memorial Day accident near Louisiana, Missouri reportedly involved two pickup trucks that met at the intersection of U.S. 54 and Route UU. Six people suffered personal injuries in the Missouri car accident.
State officials say that a 16-year-old Louisiana, Missouri resident failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection. Authorities say that the young driver pulled out in front of a second pickup truck that was traveling south on U.S 54.
In all, six people were involved in the two vehicle wreck—three people were in each of the two pickup trucks. All six of the accident victims were transported to Pike County Memorial Hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
The Louisiana, Missouri teen was accompanied by two other teens aged 14- and 16-years-old. Authorities say that none of the teens were wearing seat belts when the pickup trucks collided.
Three people from Illinois were in the second pickup that authorities say had the right of way on U.S. 54. Each of the accident victims from Illinois was wearing seat restraints. The injury accident was reported shortly after 4:15 Monday afternoon.
